Spanish Espadrille Brand Toni Pons Bolsters U.S. Presence with Florida Opening
Celebrating 80 years in 2026, the Spanish shoe brand plans a new store launch in Punta Cana, solidifying its global presence where it already derives 70% of its sales, overshadowing domestic performance.
Toni Pons is moving forward with its plan to become more international. The Spanish company specializing in footwear has announced the launch of a store in Miami Beach, Florida, at 1656 Lenox Avenue. The company is planning a new opening in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
With this opening, the company, known for its espadrilles, is betting on a new store concept that expresses its “Mediterranean character” also abroad, according to what it has published on its professional social networks.
The company premiered its new concept store in Platja d’Aro (Girona), located at number 34, Avinguda de S’Agaró. It opened its doors five months ago and was the starting point to replicate in this Miami opening and in the next one planned in Punta Cana. According to the company, which celebrates its eightieth anniversary this year, the objective is to include this concept in new stores and gradually replicate it in those already in operation.
The group operates with a multichannel model: according to the latest published data, B2B accounts for 45% of turnover, while physical stores account for 30% and ecommerce for 25%. Less than half of the company’s stores are in Spain.
Toni Pons generates 70% of its turnover abroad
In fact, 70% of Toni Pons’ turnover comes from international markets. The Spanish company already has stores in France, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and is now strengthening its presence in the United States. The footwear proposal is present in more than ninety countries and exceeds 4,000 points of sale internationally.
Toni Pons’ production is concentrated in factories in La Rioja and the province of Alicante. The company maintains its commitment to craftsmanship, especially in its iconic product, the hand-sewn espadrille. Each year, Toni Pons sells between 1.2 and 1.3 million pairs of shoes.
Toni Pons grew 37% in 2021, 53% in 2022 and 11% in 2023. The 2024 financial year was one of stabilization, while for 2025 the company forecast moderate growth of between 5% and 8%.
Toni Pons was founded in Osor, a small town near Girona, and started its activity manufacturing esparto espadrilles and boots with recycled tire soles. In 2016, Jordi Pons took over the management of the company and launched an expansion plan that included the opening of own stores, the expansion of the winter collection and a growing specialization in slippers in the wake of the pandemic.
