Giorgio Armani Corp. is making a move in its structure in the Americas. The company, which oversees the operations of the Italian Gucci group, has appointed Matteo Mascazzini as CEO of the region, effective immediately, to oversee the conglomerate’s activity in the continent.

The executive thus takes over from Izumi Sasano, who has returned to Japan after holding the position since 2023. Previously, Sasano was CEO of Giorgio Armani in the Japanese market for nearly two decades. In addition, the appointment brings Mascazzini back to a perimeter he knows well. Throughout his career, the executive has alternated general management functions with operational roles in key markets, with a specific focus on the United States, and has a long track record in the luxury industry.

For three years, Mascazzini served as President of Gucci Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea), a responsibility from which he coordinated the brand’s regional activity. Previously, he was CEO of the footwear company Geox.

The executive spent a decade at the Kering-controlled company, where he rose through the ranks to top-level positions, including senior vice president and chief operating officer of Gucci America, a role that is particularly closely linked to the day-to-day running of the business in the United States.

Armani is also part of his resume. Mascazzini worked for more than 15 years in the group at different stages and geographies. Along the way, he held positions as CFO in Japan, CEO in Australia and head of operations in the United States.

In the organization chart, Mascazzini will report to Michele Tacchella, deputy general manager and global brand and commercial director of Giorgio Armani Spa, according to WWD.

The move also comes in the midst of the group’s reorganization following the death of Giorgio Armani, who died on September 4th, 2025, at the age of 91. In October, the company appointed Giuseppe Marsocci to lead the group as CEO with a seat on the board.

The changes at the top come in the wake of Armani’s demise, which stipulated that his heirs must sell 15% of the company’s capital within 18 months of his death. Subsequently, and within three to five years, the plan foresees the sale of an additional 30% to 54.9% to the same buyer, or alternatively, the company’s IPO. For the moment, EssilorLuxottica is the main candidate to acquire 10% of Armani’s capital.
