MBFW Madrid joins the reorganization of the global calendar of fashion events. If last September the Madrid fair Momad, also organized by Ifema, announced its readjustments motivated by the upcoming landing of Formula 1 in the capital and, this same week the bathing catwalk of Gran Canaria Swim Week announced its project to bring forward its celebration from October to June next year, it is now the turn of the fashionable fashion show of Gran Canaria Swim Week to be held from October to June.or Gran Canaria Swim Week announced its plan to bring forward its celebration from October to June from next year, now it is the turn of the capital’s fashion week.

Organized by Ifema, the catwalk will abandon its usual appointment in February (during which it used to coincide in dates with fashion weeks like New York or London) to take place a few weeks later, from March 18th to 21st. This delay, which will place the Madrid event at the end of the catwalk circuit, will avoid overlapping with other events and aims to reinforce the attractiveness of the event for the press, buyers and international public.

“We are making changes, analyzing what we can do to position MBFW Madrid as a reference event,“ Valentina Suárez-Zuloaga, founder of Es Fascinante and creative director of the event since last year, assures Modaes. “In addition, the celebration of March will allow us to lengthen the preparation period and have more time to work for the next edition”, celebrates the creative, who aspires to be the creative director of the event since last year. She hopes to take advantage of the “boom that Madrid is experiencing” and rethink the event to place it on the map of international catwalks with its own identity “just like Copenhagen did in its day”.

In this project, Suárez-Zuloaga is not alone, but is accompanied by Asier Labarga, the Ifema executive appointed as director of the catwalk last April. After four editions led by Ana Rodríguez, his appointment was made with the aim of professionalizing the event and “repositioning the platform in the international fashion circuit”.

For the head of the project, the roadmap of the catwalk is built around axes such as craftsmanship and efficiency.Everything must have a feasible and measurable return”, said Labarga in an interview with Modaes shortly after having made his new position official, after a long career within the trade fair institution. The aim of the event is also to reinforce the experience component, strengthen ties with the industry and attract international business.

The last edition of the event was held on its usual dates, between September 17th and 21st. The event, which was the first catwalk organized under its new management, incorporated some new features that are expected to be expanded over the next few editions. Coinciding with its 40th anniversary, it brought together designers such as the Colombian Silvia Tcherassi or the Spanish Simorra, Claro Couture or Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.
