In a strategic move to heighten international appeal, Gran Canaria’s local designers and the Cabildo have decided to shift their swimwear showcase from October to June beginning in 2026, enhancing its commercial and media presence.

New turnaround in the agenda of professional events. After the Madrid fashion fair Momad announced its jump to the month of July from next year, Gran Canaria Swim Week picks up the baton to do the same with the organization of its annual appointment with swimwear fashion. The main professional swimwear fashion show in Europe will change its date of celebration to June from 2026.

The measure, agreed between the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the designers of the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida program, seeks to strengthen the international competitiveness of the event, align it with the global fashion calendar and consolidate the island as a European benchmark for creativity, sustainability and innovation. Until now, the catwalk was held in October, showing the collections destined for the following summer. With this change, the event will be moved forward four months in order to coincide with the key phase of purchasing and production of collections, favoring the connection with international buyers and distributors.

The decision was taken by the Cabildo’s Department of Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts together with the island’sleading designers, following a technical and market analysis that identified June as the ideal month for the swimwear fashion calendar.

As explained by the island councilor and promoter of the event, Minerva Alonso, the change “allows a more direct connection with buyers and consumers, in addition to strengthening the media and promotional appeal of the event”. The idea, she said, is to “improve the commercial return of the brands and increase the international visibility of the event”. The catwalk’s organizational budget already amounts to two million euros.

The new calendar will also allow the audiovisual content generated during the catwalk to serve as promotional material at international fairs and circuits, strengthening the presence of Gran Canaria in strategic markets such as Europe and Latin America.

The time adjustment will place Gran Canaria Swim Week at a key moment in the global calendar. While the main trade fairs in the sector, such as Miami Swim Week or Mare di Moda, concentrate their activity between June and July, the Canary Island event will be integrated into the same commercial planning dynamics.

Thus, participating designers will be able to present their collections in a more competitive context, promoting export opportunities and greater access to international buyers. The decision also seeks to optimize logistics and take advantage of the island’s low tourist season to attract media, distributors and professional visitors.

The Gran Canaria Moda Cálida program, promoted by the Cabildo, has been fostering the professionalization and internationalization of fashion on the island for more than three decades. Under its umbrella, the catwalk has established itself as the largest European event specialized in swimwear, bringing together local firms and international brands in an environment that combines creativity, business and tourism.

The change of dates has been advised by the Spanish Association of Fashion Creators (Acme), the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, the organizing company Esma and international experts such as Scott Lipinski, manager of the German Fashion Advisory Council and secretary general of the European Fashion Alliance.
