Miuccia Prada and Zuhair Murad Celebrated by Fashion Trust Arabia in Seventh Year
On Saturday, November 23rd, the Arab Fashion Awards ceremony lit up the fashion world, celebrating seven designers across seven categories and honoring industry stalwarts Miuccia Prada and Zuhair Murad with special awards.
The support program for emerging designers celebrated its seventh edition at the National Museum of Qatar last Saturday, where seven designers were awarded in seven different categories, such as ready-to-wear, accessories or jewelry. In addition, the gala featured the honorary lifetime achievement award, given to Miuccia Prada, and the pioneer award, which was presented to Zuhair Murad.
The seven winners in the different categories were Youssef Drissi, for his brand Late for Work, in Ready-to-wear; designer Ziyad ALBuainain, for his brand Ziyad Buainain, in the eveningwear category; Leila Roukni, for Talel, in accessories; Farah Radwan for her brand FYR Jewelry, in the jewelry category.
The Franca Sozzani award for debut talent went to designer Alaa Alaradi and in fashion technology, the award was given to Fatema and Dalal Alkhaja, for their brand Touchlessy. As for the guest country, which this year was India, the award went to Kartik Kumra, founder and creative director of Kartik Research, an artisanal Indian fashion brand.
Miuccia Prada received the Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award, while Zuhair Murad was awarded the Pioneer Award
Kering was also present at the gala, offering, for the first time in the history of the Fashion Trust Arabia, a personalized mentoring program tailored to the needs of the winner of the Franca Sozzani Emerging Talent Award.
Global icon Miuccia Prada was also honored during the celebration, with the lifetime achievement award for her “transformation of contemporary fashion and her impact on style, culture and innovation,“ FTA said in a statement.
Also designer Zuhair Murad, a native of the region, received an honorary pioneer award, for “his artistic brilliance and consistent resilience that has brought Arab haute couture to the world stage,“ the organization said.
This edition’s jury included global fashion industry profiles such as Amina Muaddi, designer and founder of Amina Muaddi; Arnaud Vaillant and Sebastien Meyer, creative directors and co-founders of Coperni; Bethann Hardison, activist and model; Charles Rosier, co-founder and CEO of Augustinus Bader; Duran Lantink, designer and creative director of Jean Paul Gaultier; Giambattista Valli, designer; Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini, creative directors of The Attico; Guram Gvasalia, creative director of Vetements; Rachid Rachid, president of Valentino and Balmain; Remo Ruffini, CEO of Moncler; Wayman & Micah, fashion and celebrity stylists; Yoon Ahn, designer and co-founder of Ambush; Rabih Kayrouz, designer and founder of Maison Rabih Kayrouz; Zuhair Murad, designer and founder of Zuhair Murad; and Christian Louboutin, designer and founder of Christian Louboutin.
