AI Fuels Record Online Sales: Black Friday Hits $11.8 Billion in the US
Elevated by artificial intelligence, online shopping tools have powered a significant 9.1% increase in consumer expenditure in the U.S. over the latest weekend, outpacing figures from 2024.

In the context of the new tariff measures, shoppers in the United States have taken advantage of the discount and bargain season to shop online and avoid physical stores.
According to Adobe Analytics, a digital platform owned by Adobe Experience Cloud that collects and analyzes user behavior on websites and apps, the United States saw record spending of $11.8 billion on the last Black Friday, up 9.1% from the same date in 2024.
Cyber Monday could become the most important day of the year in terms of online sales
Online shopping in the U.S. was also analyzed by Mastercard Spending Pulse, which measured sales growth using transaction data from all cards including the entire retail industry, and recorded a 10.4% rise in purchase volume by U.S. users.
AI-driven traffic was up 805% compared to last year on U.S. retail sites, when AI tools such as Walmart-owned Sparky or Amazon’s Rufus were not yet in use.
Globally, AI has influenced online shopping to the tune of about $14.2 billion during Black Friday, with $3 billion of that coming from the U.S., according to software company Salesforce. Order volume in the North American country decreased by 1%, while average selling prices increased by 7%, according to data also compiled by Salesforce.
This season’s spending surge isn’t over yet. The forecast for Cyber Monday, held today, is for U.S. consumers to reach $14.2 billion in sales spending, up 6.3% year-over-year. According to Adobe, this Monday would become the biggest online shopping day of the year.
