Decathlon Sports India and Ecosis have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in the development and application of recycled polyester from textile to textile in sportswear. The agreement, made public by the technology startup , owned by Filatex India, seeks to advance circularity models within the sports industry, reducing dependence on virgin raw materials and giving a second life to textile waste.

As part of this partnership, Decathlon Sports India will conduct structured tests with recycled polyester chips and filaments developed by Ecosis, integrating them into its manufacturing ecosystem. The two companies will work together to “explore solutions to keep textile waste in circulation and move towards a more sustainable production model,“ they said in a statement.

Ecosis has developed a patented technology capable of transforming discarded textile waste into “polyester of equivalent quality to virgin material”. The company argues that the end of life of a garment should not mean the end of the material, but an opportunity to reintroduce it into the value chain through circular industrial processes.

The collaboration takes on special relevance at a key moment for Ecosis, whose commercial plant is currently under construction and plans to start operations in 2026. For the company, the agreement with a group of Decathlon’s size and industrial capacity “represents a decisive step in moving circularity from the conceptual level to execution” on a large scale.

Decathlon Sports India is part of the French group Decathlon, one of the world’s largest sporting goods distributors, with a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability and responsible production. In the Indian market, the company has been expanding its industrial and supplier base, progressively integrating environmental criteria in the development of materials, processes and products.

Ecosis is positioned as a start-up, a wholly owned subsidiary of Filatex India Limited, specialized in technological solutions for the management and recovery of textile waste, with a focus on the chemical recycling of polyester. Under the premise of “turning waste into value”, the company works to offer industrial alternatives that allow brands and manufacturers to move towards circular models, in a context of increasing regulatory and environmental pressure on the fashion and textile industry.

Ecosis’ new commercial plant under construction is located in Dahej, in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is an industrial project with the capacity to recycle up to 110 metric tons of polyester textile waste per day and is expected to be operational by September 2026, as recently published by Apparel Resources.
