Galeries Lafayette Ventures into Film to Champion Short Film Creation
The Parisian department store group is set to make its debut at the renowned Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival this February, aligning with its By Night initiative.
Galeries Lafayette becomes a partner of the forty-eighth edition of the International Short Film Festival that takes place annually in the French city of Clermont-Ferrand, as part of its By Night program, which will open next February. With this project, the French group continues its commitment to contemporary creation.
The Festival will feature a round table and a preview screening of the winning short films of the By Night 2025 program. The new call for projects for the 2026 edition will also be opened.
Galeries Lafayette, in 2021, together with the French production company Misia Films, promoted By Night, a series of original short films shot inside the galleries only during the night. The project serves as a support program for audiovisual creation, aiming to promote different artistic forms.
Galeries Lafayette had a network of 61 stores internationally at the end of 2023
The winning creation of By Night in 2024 was Deux personnes échangeant de la salive, by Natalie Musteata and Alexandre Singh and was co-produced by Galeries Lafayette and Misia Film. The short film received the Audience Award and Canal+ Award at the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand and has been shortlisted for the Oscar and César Awards 2026 in the Best Short Film category.
Several filmmakers, such as the Argentine Clara Cullen, who featured French designer Michèle Lamy in her short film, have participated in this initiative, giving their own nocturnal perspective of the stores. A mix of fiction and reality that shows a new vision of what happens once the doors close, accompanied by original music.
In 2023, Galeries Lafayette had 61 stores spread across France and the rest of the world. The stores employ more than 14,000 people and have a turnover of around €4 billion.
