Dickies has a new owner. VF Corporation, owner of brands such as The North Face, Vans and Timberland, has sold the company for $600 million to Bluestar Alliance, which will add it to its portfolio of brands that also includes Hurley, Scotch&Soda and Palm Angels.

Although regulatory approvals are still pending, the deal is expected to close by the end of 2025, VF Corporation said in a statement on Monday. With this sale, VF Corporation aims to reduce its debt level.

According to the latest data published at the end of July, despite exceeding forecasts, VF Corporation’s sales stagnated in the first quarter of the year. However, it managed to reduce its losses by 55% to $116.4 million. Its turnover fell by 0.47% to $1.76 billion.

Bluestar Alliance is fully engaged in a strategy to increase its brand portfolio. The group announced earlier this year the acquisition of Italian luxury urban fashion brand Palm Angels, founded in 2015 by Francesco Ragazzi. The group has distinguished itself by acquiring fashion retail companies whose sales exceed $6 billion.

Joseph Gabbay, CEO of Bluestar Alliance, has pledged to “support the growth of the brand” and “maximize its interest to all stakeholders.“ He thanked VF Corporation for the “rebuilding” of the brand over the past few years.

For his part, VF President and CEO Bracken Darrell said that, under the ownership of Bluestar Alliance, the company “will continue to improve and achieve its significant growth potential”. He added that the acquisition will enable the group to “reduce its debt level” and expand its growth.

VF Corporation bought Dickies in 2017 for $820 million. Until then, the company was in the hands of the founding family and had an annual turnover of around $875 million. The goal was for Dickies to accelerate the growth of VF Corporation’s urban fashion division.

Founded in 1922, Dickies offers men’s and women’s fashion products and is distributed in 55 countries. Bluestar Alliance was founded in 2006 by Joseph Gabbay and Ralph Gindi with more than $10 billion in global retail sales.
