Mercado Libre has posted a historic half-year. The Latin American marketplace, of Argentine origin but headquartered in Uruguay, closed the first six months of the year on an upward trend. At the end of the first half of the year, which ended on June 30th, the company had increased its turnover by 35%, to $12.725 billion.

The company’s gross profit, meanwhile, grew by a similar 33.6% to $5,865 million up to June. Although less, the Latin American company’s profit also performed well during the period, with earnings of $1.017 billion, 16.2% more than in the same period of 2024, and surpassing the billion-dollar mark.

The company particularly valued its free shipping policy, which is now being challenged by major European online operators, as its main added value for users. “For almost a decade, we have offered free shipping on much of our business, so we know it is a crucial lever for conversion, retention and consumer satisfaction,“ the company explained in a statement.

Of the company’s total revenues, up to $11.284 billion came from the services-related business line, while the remaining $1.441 billion is related to product sales.

In the second quarter alone , Mercado Libre generated a turnover of $6,790 million and a profit of $716 million. By markets, the Argentine company accumulates most of its business in Brazil, where it generated a turnover of $3,473 million, 24.6% more than in the second quarter of the previous year.

In Mexico, meanwhile, the rise was similar, up 25.3% to $1.506 billion, while in Argentina, the Mercado Libre business posted its best performance, with turnover rising from $863 million to $1.527 billion. “We highlight the attractiveness of our value proposition compared to physical retail in the country, as the economy stabilizes, consumer confidence returns and consumption strengthens,“ the company added.
