Destination Maternity files for chapter 11 bankruptcy with 244 million debt

Another retailer ends up in court. Maternity-apparel company Destination Maternity has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The group listed 260 million in assets and 244 million dollars in debts.

Destination Maternity has 362 Motherhood Maternity Stores, 26 Pea in the Pod stores and 70 Destination Maternity stores. It also operates additional stores globally and through franchise deals. The company plans to close about 210 underperfoming locations, according to its bankruptcy filings. Globally, the group employs over 3.4000 employees.

The group is working with advisors at the law firm Kirkland&Ellis and Berkeley Research Group to try to find a buyer in bankruptcy, according to Cnbc. Weren’t this possible, it will likely be forced to liquidate.

The retailer has a market capitalization of nearly 5 million dollars, according to FactSet. According to the latest data available, in fiscal 2018 the group reported a loss of 14.3 million and sales of 383.8 million dollars, according to its annual report.
