Gore closes Gorewear, becoming another industrialist to throw in the towel on its brand. The creator and owner of Gore-Tex material has announced the definitive closure of its clothing brand, which specializes in cycling and running apparel, next year. The company has cited economic reasons.

Founded in 1985, Gorewear hit the market with the launch of the first waterproof and windproof cycling jacket with Gore-Tex. In 2018, the brand merged its cycling and running lines. Despite their union, the branded division represents a small part of the business. The company closes after failing to meet its business and financial targets.

As reported by specialized media outlet Esmtb, the closure does not mean the end of Gore-Tex fabrics, which will continue to manufacture waterproof materials for use in other brands’ outdoor, military and industrial garments.

Gorewear’s owner, Gore&Associates, was the discoverer of the Gore-Tex material, which is used in fashion as well as in the medical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, petroleum, aerospace, automotive and electronics industries. It was the son of the founding couple, Robert Gore, who came up with the material. According to the latest information published for 2020, Gore ended its fiscal year with sales of $3.28 billion.
