Primark accelerates in Italy. The Irish company, owned by the Associated British Foods holding company, has signed an agreement with the real estate operator Segro to build its first logistics center in the country. The 872,000-square-feet project will be developed in Alessandria, an enclave considered strategic due to its proximity to the port of Genoa. The company plans to start construction work next year.

The new logistics hub will strengthen the distribution of the Italian network, a key market in the Irish company’s European roadmap. According to the Italian media Pambianconews, the infrastructure will involve the creation of around 200 jobs, which will be added to the operational reinforcement planned for the coming years.

In parallel to the logistics development, Primark continues to expand its physical presence in the country with the opening of its 20th store. The new store is located in the Gli Orsi shopping center in Biella and has required an investment of more than €6.5 million, as well as the hiring of 90 workers.

The 2,300-square-meter space is part of a larger investment plan, valued at 40 million euros, which includes new openings in Perugia, Naples and Rome.

Luca Ciuffreda, director of Primark Italy, has underlined the strategic weight of the double move announced. “It is an important step in our growth strategy and a concrete contribution to local employment,“ said the executive.

The opening in Biella and the development of the Alessandria center are part of a consolidation strategy in southern Europe, where the group is strengthening its logistics capacity to support expansion in high-growth markets.

According to the latest results published, Primark ended the first six months of the financial year correcting the drop in sales in the first quarter, but with a growth of only 0.62% thanks to the new openings carried out in the period. The company’s operating profit rose by 5.71%, a far cry from the 53% increase the company posted for the full year 2024.
