Reimagining the Dunk: Nike and Susan Fang Blend 3D Printing with Floral Design
The American sportswear giant teams up with an emerging Chinese designer for a collection inspired by a romantic vision of nature, featuring floral elements crafted through groundbreaking 3D printing techniques.
Nike continues to build partnerships in the Chinese market. The U.S. sportswear company has unveiled a collaboration with Chinese designer Susan Fang, an emerging artist with a distinctive, deeply romantic and refreshing vision of nature, who has created an entire collection through Air-Bloom, an innovative 3D printing technique. The company has created an entire collection through Air-Bloom, an innovative 3D printing technique.
The star piece of the collection was the redesign of the iconic Dunk sneakers, with a jacquard upper and embroidered flowers, as well as a V2K version with wavy details screen-printed in shades of blue. Other iconic sneakers have also been dressed up with peach flowers, such as the Nike Air Max Muse and Air Superfly.
“I wanted to capture that fleeting but powerful moment when the sunlight broke through the water and met the bubbles rising to the surface,“ Fang explained of the collaboration.
For the creation of the collection titled Grace in Motion, presented at the first runway show organized by Nike at Shanghai Fashion Week, the artist used Air-Bloom technology, an innovative new technology that allows her to create her own collection. Nike collaborated with Fang in early 2025 with four looks for the brand’s Shanghai fashion show
Nike has been collaborating with Fang since 2023. It was in early 2025 when the designer created four looks for Nike’s Victory Lap fashion show in Shanghai and collaborated with the Boundless Girl initiative, focused on empowering girls through sport especially in China, in rural Yunnam, where she created a nature-inspired playground for children.
Fang founded her eponymous brand in 2017, after graduating from the prestigious London school Central Saint Martins. Her signature is based on concepts related to the perception of beauty and the appeal of nature. The Chinese-Canadian-born artist has received professional accolades in the industry over the past few years, such as her presence on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2019 and 2020.
The Chinese designer received support from Dolce & Gabanna last year to hold her first solo fashion show in Milan, having previously participated in a group show organized by the Italian fashion chamber.
