Tommy Hilfiger incorporates 3D design to take a step forward on sustainability

Tommy Hilfiger, more digital and sustainable. The American fashion retailer will incorporate 3D design technology to next year’s fall capsule collection to accelerate design processes. Spring collection 2022 will also be designed using this technology.

The goal of the company is to eliminate elements from the design process such as physical sketches and samples. This way, the majority of products necessary for the design of apparel will exclusively exist digitally, as 3D designs, until the garments are physically produced.

“The potential of 3D design is limitless, allowing us to meet consumer needs faster and in a more sustainable way,” said Daniel Grieder, chief executive officer of Tommy Hilfiger Global and PVH Europe.

The company has also created Stitch, a tech incubator specialized in digitalizing the design practices. In the future, the firm aims to apply 3D designs to all of its product teams, which includes designers, patternmakers, fit technicians, product developers, and merchandisers.

Tommy Hilfiger started its 3D design journey in 2017 and has since come out with tech innovations such as digital fabric and pattern and color asset library brought by digital tools like 3D presentation and rendering technology.
