Marta Álvarez has been president of El Corte Inglés since June 2019. She and her sister Cristina are daughters of Isidoro Álvarez, nephew and heir of the company’s founder, Ramón Areces. Together they own a 15% stake in El Corte Inglés. Álvarez, a law graduate, worked at the Sotheby’s auction house before joining El Corte Inglés, where she went through different departments until she joined the buying department.
