Milano Unica closes new edition with a 2% drop in visitors

Milano Unica’s visitors drop in latest edition. The Italian textile fair, which took place between February 4 and 6, saw a 2% drop in its visitors. In parallel, the event brought together 477 exhibitors at the Fiera Milano Rho fairgrounds.

The attendees who derived from the United States, Turkey, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Romania, Portugal, China and the United Kingdom rose, whereas visitors from Germany, Italy and Japan experienced a decline. The fair will celebrate its next edition between July 7 and 9.

The latest edition will be the last for its current of president, Ercole Botto Poala. The director will be succeeded by Alessandro Barberis Canónico. Botto forewarned about the situation of the sector in the opening ceremony of the contest.

“The year 2019 was a difficult one for the sector, as evidenced by the drop in overall revenue and that of material exports and 2020 does not present itself with the best hopes, weighed down by the Chinese epidemic and drought and fires in Australia,” said the manager.

The Italian textile sector had a revenue of 7.6 billion euros (8.3 billion dollars) in 2019, 4.7% more than the previous year, according to estimates by Confindustria Moda.
