Trump responds to the Google tax: France could face 100% tariffs

United States responds to the Google tax, hitting the heart of the European fashion business. The Trump administration said that it would set tariffs as high as 100% on certain French imports, including bags and cosmetic products. The entire list includes a total of 63 products valued at 2.4 billion dollars.

This announcement is made in response to the measure approved by the French Government of taxing digital services of large American tech companies like Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon, widely frequented by French citizens. According to this measure, a tax of 3% will be implemented to the turnover of American digital companies that will be obliged to pay this tax in France for all profits made in the country.

France’s economy and finance minister, Bruno Le Maire, denounced the tariff threat as “unacceptable” and said that Europe would come ahead with a “strong response,” without turning backwards on the implementation of the GAFA tax.
