Luxury Resale Takes Center Stage: CFDA Teams Up with Fashionphile
Designing for Resale: CFDA and Fashionphile’s latest series investigates the drivers of luxury resale, offering insights into the current challenges and potential pathways for designers navigating this burgeoning sector.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (Cfda) has teamed up with Fashionphile to present a five-part series entitled Responsible Fashion: Designing for Resale, exploring the issues shaping luxury resale today.
Cfda and Fashionphile, the second-hand luxury accessories resale platform, have collaborated on this new program, which “highlights the thoughtful approach and inspiring stories of the industry’s designers, who create with sustainability, longevity and artistry in mind,“ explained Sarah Davis, founder and president of Fashionphile.
The new series, which can now be viewed through its official pages, showcases the luxury resale market, which has become a key factor in defining the industry’s luxury, offering solutions to overproduction, waste and the demand for more sustainable consumption. “For designers, this shift presents both challenges and opportunities,“ explains Cfda in a statement.
Cfda and Fashionphile feature speakers such as Nicole Richie and Olivia Cheng in their new series
Presented by journalist Sophia Li, visionary creatives, leaders and thinkers explore the issues shaping luxury resale today, from brand equity and sustainability to market positioning and the changing consumer landscape over the course of the five episodes.
With participants including Nicole Richie, creative director of House of Harlow, Olivia Cheng, founder and creative director of Dauphinette, Julie Gilhart, founder and president of Gilhart & Co, Rachel Molina, director of sustainability at Another Tomorrow, Ben Hemminger, co-founder and CEO of Fashionphile, and Davis of Fashionphile.
Each chapter has been framed around a different section of the current landscape. With topics such as “From past to present: the power of vintage and resale,“ “How resale complements, rather than competes with new collections,“ “How to position your brand as a luxury brand in primary and secondary markets,“ “Resale and technology: How technology and innovation are transforming the circular economy”, and “Brand value and integrity: how resale can enhance your image”.
