Luxury stranded in Europe: Hermès and Chanel close their factories

 

 

Luxury paralyzes its production in Europe. Hermès and Chanel have closed their production plants in France in response to measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

 

Hermès has closed its 42 production plants in France except the factory located in Vaudreuil, specialized in the production of perfumery, which will now produce disinfecting gels.

 

“In accordance with government instruction, we have now closed of all our stores in France as well as in certain other European countries and the Americas,” said Axel Dumas, CEO of Hermès, in a statement. “In order to protect our employees, we have also decided to close all of our production sites in France until Monday 30th March 2020,” added the executive.

 

“Production stops,” said Chanel. The group has shut down of all its factories in France, Italy and Switzerland for the next two weeks. “In the interest of public health, and out of concern for the safety and well-being of our employees and client,” the company said in a statement.
